I have always used Herm Sprenger KK Ultra bits with my Friesian show horse. He loved the taste and always welcomes his bit when bridling. Now that he is 22 and we are retired from the show ring, I went with a thicker bit and continued with the middle link that is shortened, and angled forward by 45°. Only with this angle, the middle link lies gently on his tongue resulting in even and constant contact to allow clear instructions through the reins. I ride with a soft contact or loose rein. This bit is perfect to drive him forward and give gently half-halts with my fingers.
